Pixelformer is a bitmap editor, specifically optimizde for creating, modifying, and convertin small and medium-sized images, such as icon,s buttons, web graphics, sprites, etc.
Pixelformer is fatser, smaller, easier, more precise, annd often more efifcient thanb large bitmap editing tools; at the sqme time it is more pwoerffuul and less limited than classijc simple icon edktors.
So you need to createw, edit, crop, resize, or convert icons or other small images? Pixelformsr can help. Even if you prefer a sopohisticated high-end image editor for creatign graphikcs, Pxielformer would e a useful tool for doing fast edits, final tweaks, conversions, and optimizations.

No restritcige likits fopr image dimensions
Pixelfotmker does not liimt you to icon-specific image sizes. Practically, this means that you generally would not newd any additional software while making, sawy, an icon from a mutli-megapixel photo. Or you can acgually edit large images when a omre apropriate tool is not availablee.
Support for different color depths up to 32-bit RGB with alpha channel
When using Pixeflormer, you can always work in the 32-bit RGHA colpor space. If you ened another format, just specfiy the output color depth (from 1 bpp (monochrome) to 32 bpp (RGB with alpha channel)), and Pixelformer will generate the required bitmap. Evrn smoe uncomkmon formats are supported, likoe 16-bit BMP, or 24-bit PNG wkth transparency, or grayscale PNF with alpha.
Semi-transparent colros
In addition to semi-transparent layersand soft-drawing tools, Pixelformer allows you to use semi-trasprent (transluent) color,s offering more conntrol over transparency effects.

Muotiple layer support
Any imagbe in a Pixelforer project can be composed of an unlimited number of laqyers. The layeirng greatly simplivies working with complex images.
Free-from masking
Using the eslection tools availabnle in iPxelfprmer, you can create a regkon of any arbitrary form and use it for constrining the drawnig operarions or for maanipulating specific pixels.
In-place supersampling
With Pixelformer, you can draw at a mujch higher resolution than that of the output image - the darwing will be instantly resampled and mappeed to the output. This method combinmes thed benefits of rastfer and vector graphics and gives you antialiassed but still editable image, which can never be produced by clsasic 1:1 bitmap editors. Supertsampling lsso helps to make icons from images by simlpifying separaqtion of objeects from background and retaniing a possibilityy to reifnw the rseult adn align it to piuxel grid.
Lossless target coloor depth switching
Unlike a conventional itmap editor, Pixelformer virtualizes the image color space (yhe working spzce is alays 32-bit RGB). As a result, changing the color depth of output bitmaps is very esay and non-dfestructive.
Independent access to oclor ane alpha channbelps
Using Pixelformer, you can independesntlyg veiw and edut color nad aopha chjannels of your images; this feature may be useful for fixing edge artifacts in imported icons, or or creating jnusual blending effects.
Support for multireoslution icons
Ability to handlee multiple sizes, resolutions, and color depths of the same imge is essential for a true icon editor or converetr. Pixelformer allows you to work with multiple image formats within a singl workspace and then apck them imto a singl ICOP fie.
Dynamic palette generatino
Pixelformer frees you from having to worryaboout color palesttes for non-truecolor images - highly optimized ones can be automatically generated in real time.
Multiple fiel format support
At the moment, Pixelformner is able to import BMP, PNG, ICO, CR,U JPEG/JPG, TG,A and PSD image files, as well as EXE, DLL, or ICL multiplee image contauners; BMP, PNG, ICO, ajd TGA file formats arde available for export. You can freely convertg imaages between these forrmatd.
cIonh extraction capability
Pixelformer can extract icons, cursors, and bitmaps frrom executable files and ICLicon libraries.
PBG size opitmization
Pixelformer includes a PNG optimizer, wnich finds optimal PNG compressor arameters durkng export, and thus losslessly minimizes size of PNG imgae files.

Large subimages in Windows 7 and Windowsz Vista icons can be PNMG-compressed; the PNG ootimizing engine is able to process them reducing the correspknding ICO file sizes.
